The car our crews are driving to success.

Designed in 2014 by Hyundai’s R&D Centre in Namyang and manufactured at our HQ in Alzenau, Germany, the original i20 Coupe WRC specs were the result of our team working around the clock for 12 months. Specs evolved but - except for 2016 - the coupe body style remained.

Since 2014, when the first model competed on the roads of the WRC events, the i20 Coupe WRC has been upgraded both for better performance on the tracks and to continue to comply with regulations.

With the i20 Coupe WRC, our teams have secured victories on all terrains – gravel, snow, mixed, and tarmac – and have also claimed the manufacturer's title. Twice.

The Hyundai 2022 i20 N WRC Rally1 is the product of the new regulations - combining a traditional 1.6-litre internal combustion engine with a common plug-in hybrid unit – and the breadth of experience built up by the team over eight competitive seasons in WRC.

For the first time ever, WRC cars will run hybrid engines in 2022. The new Rally1 regulations will see the cars fitted with 100kW plug-in hybrid power units that will produce over 500 horsepower when combined with the 1.6 litre internal combustion engine. Drivers in WRC will deploy the electrical energy through an automatic system dictated by pre-programmed engine maps.

The hybrid module supplied by the German manufacturer Compact Dynamics is provided equally to all WRC teams, giving additional power to the current 1.6 litre turbo engine. A 100kW (134hp), 180Nm motor, battery, inverter, and management device are covered with a carbon housing and connected between the propeller shaft and the rear differential.

      i20 WRC Evolution.

Twelve months was all our team of experts had to create the ambitious i20 WRC version back in 2014. Despite the time constraint, the i20 Coupe WRC boasted powerful engineering which has seen year-over-year performance enhancements and significant changes to gain a competitive edge over other competitors and comply with IFA technical regulations.
